Introducing Insight 9: The High-Precision Edge VSLAM Engine
For autonomous robots, the question “Where am I?” is often the most computationally expensive one. Traditionally, running high-precision Visual SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) required powerful host computing, consuming valuable CPU resources needed for path planning and decision-making.
Looper Robotics is changing this paradigm with the Insight 9.
The Insight 9 is not merely a depth camera; it is a fully integrated Edge VSLAM Engine. By processing spatial data directly on the device, it outputs a real-time, high-frequency pose stream (6-DoF) to your robot, completely independent of the host processor’s load.
This “Edge-First” capability is supported by three core hardware advantages:
- 100mm Stereo Baseline: Unlike standard sensors, our wider baseline provides the necessary geometric stability to maintain VSLAM lock at long ranges (up to 30m) and high speeds.
- Industrial Multi-Sensor Fusion Architecture:
-High-Framerate Global Shutter Cameras: Eliminate the “jello effect” at the source during high-speed motion, ensuring high-quality raw data.
-High-Resolution RGB Camera: Provides exceptional color fidelity for AI algorithms and image transmission.
-Industrial-Grade IMU (BMI088): Capable of withstanding immense dynamic loads, adapting perfectly to high-dynamic embodied intelligence applications. - Powerful On-Device Compute Foundation: (We will have a dedicated article deep-diving into the Insight 9’s computing power coming soon. Stay tuned.)
With Insight 9, developers don’t just get images—they get instant, reliable localization.
