Native ROS 2 Architecture: The “Driverless” Network Edge Node

|

As the robotics industry fully embraces the ROS 2 standard, hardware architectures must evolve accordingly. The era of compiling complex, proprietary camera drivers on the host machine is over.

Looper Robotics is proud to announce that the Insight 9 is designed as a Native ROS 2 Network Node.

Unlike traditional USB cameras that require bulky SDKs to parse raw data, the Insight 9 operates on Driverless Network Protocols. By running RNDIS (Remote Network Driver Interface Specification) via the USB 3.0 Type-C interface, the device is directly recognized as a standard network interface card on your host system.

This means you do not need to install manufacturer drivers. The Insight 9 handles all data serialization internally and broadcasts standard ROS 2 messages directly to the network interface. Developers can directly obtain data packets—including high-precision VSLAM poses and depth point clouds—immediately upon connection.

This architecture ensures complete isolation between the sensor’s computing environment and the robot’s host system, guaranteeing stability and ease of deployment.
